In the midst of the things that have been going on in our country and in our own lives, it can be easy to lose sight of reasons why we should be thankful. Sometimes we take focus on everything that’s bad, the things we wish we could have but don’t, things we should’ve done but didn’t; forgetting about the things that are “good,” how far we have come, and what it took to get to this point. We are all human making us all susceptible to loss, trials, and tribulations. Life is like a series of problems that have to be solved, so the fact that you have come this far is a reason to be thankful. Be thankful for the challenges, they have molded you into the person you are: your strength, wisdom, being able to think yourself out of any situation, and the ability to make something out of nothing. It’s all because of your life’s challenges so be grateful for them.
As cliché as this may sound, always be thankful for your family and friends. The ones you love can be here today and gone tomorrow, so don’t waste precious time being angry about a situation that probably won’t matter 10 minutes from now. Sometimes family can be a little dysfunctional and aren’t always the easiest people to deal with, but when you think about it, the holidays wouldn’t be the same without them. The holidays are sometimes a reminder that our favorite people are no longer here with us: your mom, a grandparent, maybe your favorite aunt or uncle…and the list goes on. Reminisce, laugh, cry, and be thankful for all of the memories you have of them and continue to embrace those around you.
Be thankful for your health. You may not always be at 100%, but be thankful for the 65% you do have. There is always someone out there fighting a battle that is worse than the one you may be fighting right now. When you aren’t at your best and you’re still able to find the strength to get up and go whether it’s to work, run your household, or anything be thankful because you are blessed.
Be thankful for empathy, compassion, and forgiveness. In life we make mistakes, we fall short, and have struggles. Be thankful for those have compassion and have helped you. Be thankful for the people who understand you and can relate to your situation without judging you. Be thankful for the people who have forgiven you. Be thankful for the good people you’ve come across in life that keep you encouraged.
Be thankful for science. Because of science, there have been so many advances in technology, healthcare, and even skincare. Be thankful for the convenience of technology: cell phones, computers, and the internet give you the ability to have access to nearly anything at your fingertips. The advances in healthcare are helping us to live longer and stay healthier. Science is the reason we are able to understand how and why we age, which has given Elysee the ability to offer science-based skincare for over 93 years! The constant advances and changes in science will keep all of us going and continue to help us understand why things are the way that they are.
There are so many things, simple things that we should always be thankful for.
